In many advanced countries, use of toxic PVC has been completely abandoned in the cable industry and it is mandatory to use Fire Resistant material to all power cables installed in buildings. However, Pakistan is still following the outdated technologies using conventional PVC insulated and sheathed cables. It is recommended to avoid regular PVC cables to the maximum possible and use XLPE or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) insulated cables which have much better electrical properties than PVC and do not emit toxic fumes under fire.

For cables, resistance-to-fire concerns:

  • Resistance to fire and its propagation.

  • The ability of a cable to maintain functionality during fire.

  • The duration of survival under fire condition.

Newage has developed a variety of products to cater to the above situations. Newage recommends Fire Resistant Insulations / Sheaths for all cables to be used in buildings, equipment and machinery installation. Cables with Fire Retardant insulation/sheaths resist to fire propagation and act as self-extinguishing agent against fire at a smaller scale. Whereas, Fire Resistant cables using mica taped conductors & LSZH insulation/sheath materials not only offers resistance to fire but also ensures cable operation under severe surrounding fires. These cables are available in different construction options suitable to severity and intensity of potential fire exposure. Fire Resistant cables resist fire and emit non-toxic fumes under heavy fire of surrounding materials, thus not harmful to humans.

  • Conductors: Plain Annealed Solid or Stranded Copper / Aluminium Conductors to IEC: 60228

  • Fire Barrier: Conductors are protected with a Fire Barrier of Mica Glass Tape (Optional for Fire Resistant Cables)

  • Insulation: XLPE or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH)

  • Bedding: Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) (for Armoured Cables only)

  • Armouring: Round Steel or Aluminium Wires (Optional)

  • Overall Sheath: Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH)

  • Rating: Cables are rated 450/750V and 600/1000V and conform to BS EN: 50525-3 and IEC: 60502-1 respectively.
